Looking for a place on the water in Northern Door?
Porte Haven is the literal “tip of the thumb” of Wisconsin, and the previous owner called it the “top of the world” because you are RIGHT on the water and feel like you’re on a boat, portholes and all!
On your way up to Porte Haven, take notes as you drive through all the special towns Door County has to offer on Highway 42 because you will drive by all the action on the way there. You’ll know when you’re close when you approach Jen Jensen’s “winding road,” said to be the most famous road in the Midwest! Designed by architect Jen Jensen, it’s supposed to help people remember to slow down and take in their surroundings.
The cabin sits on a bluff with stairs down to the water where you can swim and collect rocks. The house itself is a cabin that was built on top of an old boathouse, which has been converted into a fun hangout area with a pool table, darts, and more games. The boathouse is two stories high and feels almost like a loft with exposed ceilings, brick walls, and open concept.

The porch is the star of the whole house.
It has a metal roof so rain sounds like pure magic, plus waterproof drapes that allow you to sit out there to watch a storm roll over the lake or a place to hangout outside, bug free!
The views at Porte Haven are beyond spectacular.
You can see four islands, and the Washington Island Ferry goes by every hour—plus, the ferry is only a short walk away. Death’s Door is famous in Door County for all the old, sunken ships, and Port Haven looks right at it.
The cabin feels very private,
but there’s also an energy and vastness to all that’s happening on the water surrounding it.
