Having vacationed in Door County, WI my entire life growing up spending summers at our family’s cabin, it’s my opinion that “going to Door County” is synonymous with “going to the cabin”.
Sure, Door County has amazing restaurants, wineries, and shops — but the true beauty of coming to this magical place isn’t for all the hustle and bustle of the touristy things to do – it’s to unplug from the rush, take in your beautiful surroundings, and reconnect with what matters most.
And the cool part?
You can do that by finding one of the amazing off the beaten path, Door County WI cabin rentals available AND venture out for all the fun the area has to offer, too. Imagine slow mornings at the cabin, afternoons on the water with a five-star dinner, or a trip to the winery in the evening. Win. Win.
We’re extremely picky when we add a cabin to our mix of offerings at the Door County Cabin Collective and our priorities are:
- The overall vibe: cabin character is a must, and take into consideration the unique qualities the cabin has to offer. We want it the be special and a place our guests can relax and take on a more slow living approach to their getaway.
- The location: we lean towards off-the-beaten path to ensure our guests are able to unwind and find restoration in a beautiful place.
- Waterfront: being water lovers, this is a must. If it isn’t waterfront? We’re not interested.
So, without further ado, here are the absolute 3 best Door County WI cabin rentals for your next magical up-north getaway.
The 3 Best Door County WI Cabin Rentals
1. The Point on Clark Lake
You just need to schedule a visit to The Point to understand how special this place is. Famous among locals and visitors alike, this property is its own private peninsula offering 1,200ft of waterfront on Clark Lake, one of few inland lakes in Door County. You’ll enjoy an East and West facing dock meaning you’ll enjoy both sunrises and sunsets. Located just two miles from the most popular tourist destination and most photographed place in all of Door County: Cave Point, you’ll be near many local attractions while enjoying your own private oasis.
With 3 separate structures and 6 private sleeping areas, this cabin is ideal for large groups up to 15 people with plenty of space to spread out. 15 ft farm table for your dinners al fresco, oversized bonfire pit, a boat rental, dog-friendly… we could go on and on. You can read all the details here and get on the waitlist here (note that this cabin does book out a year in advance for prime dates, so don’t delay in making your getaway plans to The Point)!
2. The Bay on Clark Lake
The Bay on Clark Lake is right down the street from The Point offering the same prime location and inland lake benefits (fishing, boating, swimming). The Bay is slightly smaller sleeping up to 8 people with 3 private sleeping areas. You’ll experience the best 2nd floor view of Clark Lake with floor to ceiling windows to take in the sunset and relax at night in the sunroom and an en suite master with a private balcony. With shallow swimming off the dock, and a loft hangout area for kids, this cabin is ideal for family getaways.
Farm table for outdoor dinners, beautiful lake-inspired design, and a modern updated bathroom – you’ll easily make yourself at home (just with a much better view)! Check out all the details on renting The Bay on Clark Lake here and don’t forget to sign up for the waitlist to be in the know of when the calendar opens or when there is last-minute availability.
3. Porte Haven on Death’s Door
You know the “thumb” of Wisconsin? Well, Porte Haven sits right at the tippy top of it. The previous owner called this place the “Top of the world” and that’s just where you feel like you are. You’ll have views of 5 separate islands including Washington Island. Sit on the deck and enjoy a cup of coffee while watching the ferry go back and forth transporting tourists to the popular local attraction.
Gaining it’s name because of all the “Porte” holes in the home and being on the road “Porte Des Morts” which means “Death’s Door”, this is a truly special place. Death’s Door is what the waterway between the northern tip of Wisconsin and Washington Island and one theory suggests it got its name because of the many sunken ships found here. You’ll find all kinds of books to read up on the history of this place in the cabin. The cabin was built on the original boat house which has been converted into a hangout area that presents NCY loft vibes with a cream city brick wall, pool table, game table, and views of Death’s Door.
Two fireplaces, a sauna bathroom with steam shower, kohler spa tab, a porch with metal roof to take in the most magical storms off the water – there are just too many things to say about this spectacular place. You can read more about Porte Haven here and get on the waitlist right here.
